Ben and I have always enjoyed the outdoors. We spend much of our time hiking and biking many of the scenic areas. So it was fitting that Ben proposed on one of our hikes through Whitewater State Park. That morning as we were planning our hike, he insisted on taking the trail to Coyote Point. I wasn’t sold. This trail was a hard hike from the start, and we had just hiked it two weeks prior. I didn’t see the need to do it so soon after; I wanted to explore other areas we hadn’t yet been. Ben was adamant about hiking this trail first. I caved; I went along with his plan. I had no idea what was waiting for me at the look out. We got to the top and spent some time taking in the view, I took a seat, and before I knew it, Ben was on one knee pulling out a ring box, and asking me to marry him. I gave him my forever “Yes.”
We had a little more than a year to plan. We wanted a pretty simple wedding that incorporated our woodsy style into our big day. To prepare, we took a trip up north to our hunting land. It was a warm minus six degrees when we arrived. We spent the day cutting down birch trees for our decorations.
Finally, after much anticipation and planning, the day arrived. Everything came together perfectly. Our decorations were simple, but elegant and had bits of us incorporated into all of it.
I was nervous all day, hoping everything would go as planned. Ben and I had our first look; this was the moment all my worry melted away. I was marrying my best friend, and the rest didn’t matter. Our ceremony and reception flowed without a problem. It was a beautiful story of two lives becoming one. Friends and family who love and support us surrounded us. As we sat down to eat dinner, I was filled with emotion. Looking out at everyone sharing in our joy and happiness brought me great joy. How lucky were we? We had all four sets of grandparents there with us. A moment we will cherish forever, as Ben’s Grandpa Seinola is no longer with us. Looking back on our pictures and seeing how happy he and everyone was makes that day a moment we will never forget.
