Our wedding day was (almost) what we imagined it to be! Before the ceremony began, a huge car accident happened outside of our venue. Andrew and his groomsmen were there, and one of them tore their pant leg running to help. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but what a way to get the adrenaline going, just an hour before our marriage vows.

At the ceremony, we played a few hit pop songs so we could have some fun walking down the aisle. We kept it simple and special. My uncle officiated; we had two readings from family members; and we exchanged our vows with a beautiful river view as our backdrop. I almost tripped walking down the stairs for the recessional. Good thing I was wearing tennis shoes!

Since our last name is one that most people laugh about, we thought it would be fun to own it and laugh about it, too! Our wedding hashtag was #DoTheStankeWed, and our Grand March song was “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” by Silento. As the “do the stanky leg” part played, we walked into the reception doing the “stanky leg” and laughter filled the room. My husband is a big fan of superhero movies. As a compromise, we divided the cake to showcase that theme. The guys wore superhero t-shirts under their suits as a way to keep them excited about their important role on the big day.

At the reception, my father and I, and Andrew and his daughter, shared a memorable moment at the father-daughter dance. We snuck outside later for some time alone, and our photographers captured a special moment with sparklers. An April Wisconsin wedding was definitely a risk, but it turned out to be the best spring weather we had so far. We couldn’t have asked for a better day! TWM
