Our wedding day was every bit perfectly unplanned, even though I thought I planned it out perfectly.

I woke up the morning of my wedding day to big, black clouds rolling in and thunder. After 10 minutes, it started to downpour and then came the hail. My husband-to-be sent me a text, quoting Alanis Morissette's song, “Ironic”: "It's like raaain on ‘our’ wedding day!" It made me laugh, which is what I needed! The girls and I gathered our umbrellas, and headed to JC Penney Salon for our hair styling. Returning to the hotel, where the wedding was to be held, I kept telling everyone that the ceremony would be outside. Finally, around noon, the staff told me that an outdoor ceremony wasn't possible. Although it had finally stopped raining, they were unable to set up chairs because the ground was too saturated. I was disappointed, but at that point, all I wanted was to see my groom (we hadn't taken our “first look” pictures yet) and spend the rest of the day together.

My photographer and I were walking outdoors to take some bridal pictures when a lady says in passing, "You sure picked a bad day for a wedding." All I could think was that it was a perfect day because I was marrying my best friend, as cliché as it sounds. As we started doing pictures, the sun came out. We were able to take the majority of them outside, which was perfect. The wedding went smoothly from there. Someday, we’ll tell our grandchildren how it hailed on our wedding day, and it was still perfect! Because in the end, it's not about the actual day, it's about the marriage that follows. And that marriage has been pretty amazing ever since.TWM
